The Fenland Poet Laureate competition is limited to poets living, working or studying in Fenland.

The competition aims to encourage the work of rural poets and writers, particularly those living in the market towns and villages in North and East Cambridgeshire, West Norfolk, West Suffolk, and South Lincolnshire. The winners must live within travelling distance of Wisbech, which is the original centre point of the Fenland Poet Laureateship. As a result of this, competition entrants must live, work or study within the following road boundaries (county A roads, B roads and Motorways going anti-clockwise from Girton): North of the A14, North of A11, West of A1065, West of A134, West of A10, South of A17, South of A151, East of A16, East of A1073, North of A47, East of B1040, East of A141, East of B1514 and North of A14.
